On June 9th, I shared the story of Lo, a then-Division I track and field athlete. I had the privilege of working with her over the course of three years as an Ivy League student-athlete.
As I noted in my original story about Lo, I had the privilege of watching her evolve over the course of her career. She went from confused to contributor to content. She is now graduated and officially retired from her sport.
I take great satisfaction in my role in helping young athletes find the solutions that they are seeking whether it as performers or as human beings.
Mental performance coaches have a very unique role in an athlete’s development process. We are bound by confidentiality, so we have to be very careful about how we share about our work with clients. We are also immersed with helping our athletes when they are going through their most difficult times, but don’t necessarily get to share in the joy and triumph when it happens.
So, when I receive feedback from my clients that tell me exactly the role that I helped play in their development, this is all the recognition that I need.
Lo’s preface to the testimonial in her email to me was, “Here is my testimonial. I mean every word!”
We are now planning to record a podcast together soon to discuss her journey in detail. I’m excited to share more about how she evolved from confused to contributor to content.
